helping the poorI wanted to report on people in hip hop actually trying to make a difference in the world for the better. These individuals aren’t just about increasing their bankrolls they also want to give help others either financially or help starving areas receive the basic necessities in life.

50 Cent- He started a campaign combined with his new energy drink back in 2011. His energy drink Street King is the driving mechanism in his charity work in this campaign. For every energy shot bought will provide a meal for those in need in Africa. He is looking to provide over a billion meals in starved parts of the continent. He also hosted a program called “Forever Young”. A non-profit organization dedicated to improve the quality of life in low-income and underdeserved communities such like the his old neighborhood in Queens,NY. Even his headphones that came out two years ago, 50 Cent found and angle to sell his merchandise and give back as well. For each sale of his headphones he will provide 250 meals a program supported by “Feeding America”, A charitable organization against hunger.

Jay-Z – He started the Sean Carter Foundation to provide scholarships for those who are at a disadvantage in life. It helps single mothers, children in alternative schools, students with a 2.0 grade point average and even if a student was previously incarcerated.

Back in 2006 Jay-z gave back by supplying water to an impoverished, undernourished parts of Angola. He combined his superstar status combined with United Nations he wants to help a portion of the 1.2 billion either living without water or living without clean water. He wanted to build over 1,000 water pumps in parts of the country that needs it most.

He also along with P Diddy gave back over one million dollars to help those affected by hurricane Katrina.  He also performed concerts to raise money for his charities and for the scholarships as well.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj had donated over $15,000 dollars that aided NY hungry during the thanksgiving season. She also teamed up with Barbie to create a unique Nicki styled doll that the sales were donated to charity as well. Minaj has also donated to “Save the Music Foundation”, and also the “Red Cross” as well.

My whole point to this blog is that we only hear about a rap stars treating themselves to lavish cars, and houses not knowing the struggles they went through while that strengthened their fire in forging their art it also inspired a willingness for change.I have left off so many off this list who give back. Ludacris, Mary J Blige, Jennifer Hudson, P. Diddy, Nas, Chris Brown have all give to charities or even started their own foundation to feed the hunger, educate those who need guidance in today’s economical and financial climate. Just think of this before you go an judge a entertainer next time.

  1. I love when people focus on the positive! This country thrives on negativity & drama causing more of it to circle around – the world needs more positive thinking people such as yourself -xoxo

    • Thank you so much. I totally agree. I really appreciate you taking the time to look over my blog. Stay positive yourself and positivity will. Have a good one.
