KENTUCKY (PIX11) — A beauty queen has come out of the closet after a federal judge ruled her home state discriminated against same sex couples.

Former Miss Kentucky Djuan Trent made the announcement on her blog last month with the deceleration, I am queer.”

Trent said she struggled with the decision but thought it was important to enter the gay rights conversation.

Former Miss Kentucky comes out at gay, makes history Trent came out on her blog after Kentucky’s gay marriage ban was found to be unconstitutional.

“For a while, I struggled with the decision of whether or not it was necessary to ‘come out.’ I have realized that there is really no way for people to know that I disagree with their views or, even more so, to know that they are talking about me, unless I actually open my mouth and say it,” she wrote.
