National Grid crews working on a gas line on 108th Street near Jamaica Avenue in Richmond Hill discovered the bones underground just after 11 am. The remains have not been identified.

An NYPD detective on the scene at the time speculated that the site may have previously been some sort of burial ground.

The city Medical Examiner’s office is working with a forensic anthropologist and a historian to determine who the bones belong to, and how they ended up on a residential block.
